This is Angel's new bit. It came in the mail. Hopefully she'll like it better than her old bit. This (for those who care to know) is a Jeffer's Walking Horse snaffle bit. Her old bit was a double twisted wire snaffle bit.
Ooo! Shiny! Now...I am not a horse person, but what exactly is the purpose of a bit? Seems like the horse wouldn't like something in her mouth. But like I said, I know nothing about horses--so please enlighten my understanding! :oD
The purpose is to tell the horse where to go and when to stop. If the horse is well behaved enough you can use a hackamore which has no bit.
This new bit is (supposedly) a very gentle bit and doesn't hurt.
The double twisted wire bit is said tto be a VERY harsh bit and cuts into the horse's mouth. This is for a horse that has a hard mouth and a hard head (won't do what he's told =P )
Angel has a very soft mouth so that just makes her behavior worse. She really is a sweet horse.
That does help! So it's sort of a guide because they can feel things so much better in their mouths...? Meaning, slapping their side or kicking with your heels would not be as effective in showing them direction...?
